Los Angeles Times Celebration of Food and Wine

On Labor Day weekend food and wine affectionados came together to the Los Angeles Times Celebration of Food and Wine.  It was charmingly located in the Brooklyn backlot of Paramount Studios.  Several celebrity chefs and food personalities such as Michael Voltaggio (Season 6 Top Chef Winner), Tommy Tang (Easy Thai Cooking), and Aarti Sequeira (Aarti Party) were all present and involved in panel discussions and cooking demonstrations.  I even rubbed elbows and tried the samples of Chef Ilan Hall of The Gorbals.

Bacon Wrapped Matzoh Ball from The Gorbals
Ilan Hall Top Chef Winner Season 2
Michael Voltaggio (Season 6 Top Chef Winner), John Shook, Vinny Dotolo (Animal Restaurant) L.A.'s Best New Chefs
Kalbi Taco from Bool BBQ Truck
Samples from Voskos Greek Yogurt and Melissa's Produce
Jen from the Nom Nom Truck
Stephen Domingue from the Ragin Cajun Truck

Several trucks from The Food Network's The Great Food Truck Race participated in the event.  I tried the Bayou Bisque (yum) and the Gumbolaya (meh) from the Ragin Cajun Truck and an assortment of banana puddings (yum) from the Nana Queens Truck.  The longest line in the event belonged to the Nom Nom Truck for their Banh Mi Vietnamese sandwiches (om nom nom nom).

All-in-all, the event had generous wine samples (just realized I didn't take any pictures of some of my favorite wineries that day, oops) but not so many food samples.  It was slim pickin' for those who did not bring cash to buy food.  On a hot day such as this with an empty stomach and a glass full of wine, who knows how many poor souls suffered (or relished) in the consequences.

However, She & Him wrapped up the event with a performance.  I absolutely adore Zooey Dechanel.  So when she was performing I was completely satisfied, tummy full and ears happy.
