Olvera St.

Happy Friday the 13th! It's pouring cats and dogs here in LA.  I had to go home and change because my pants were soaking from the knees down.  And they say it never rains in southern California.

Besides the rain, I've had a tough week.  I caught a severe cold and I'm still trying to battle through it.  So I'm sorry I haven't been posting much lately as there really isn't much to report from under my pillow.  I wanted to post these pictures last Friday but I'm just now getting to them.  This was from last week at Olvera Street, the oldest part of Downtown LA.  It's so colorful and lively.  Mariachi music plays in the background as you smell street tacos cooking at every other stand.  Just walking through this lively, short street makes me want to explore more of the historic elements of Los Angeles.

My favorite Mexican pastry is a concha.  My grandpa used to bring them home all the time when I was a kid.  Now, I can't keep myself from them.  When I see one I have to have it.  It's a fluffy bread that has a sweet topping that resembles a shell.  The sweet toppings come in different colors, usually brown, pink, or cream.  There's no sweet sweeter than one that brings sweet memories.
